Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
